Is it just me or does anyone else notice a recent surge in apostasy content on YouTube and across social media ? New channels are picking up out of nowhere and this sort of content appears to be taking over what used to get the "Dawah scene". Has social media and open access to information opened up a Pandora's box on all things Islam related? Based on some of the arguments presented by a number of this new wave of Martaddin, certain basic questions were not answered by the traditional "Mullah" type, leading the people in question down a rabbit hole of inquiry and eventually straight out of Islam. We need to start answering the HARD questions dear Muslims. Stop brushing difficult questions under the prayer carpet, the internet has changed everything. There is no more wisdom in avoiding difficult conversations pertaining to islamic tenets, events and history. Start addressing the questions with candor and honesty. While some of us celebrate the surge in conversions coming from young westerners following the "Tate Factor", we should also be preparing the community for what could be a mass wave of apostasy when the fad dies out or/if the key influencers decide to stop being Muslim and begin posting their apostasy stories online? Things to think about. We need more open discussions, more resilience and more willingness to embrace what may be considered past mistakes (historically speaking) or else we may lose many converts to these apostate influencers in years to come. The tide is rising, at least here on YouTube What are your thoughts? Should we maintain rigid boundaries for what can or cannot be discussed in the public sphere when it comes to Islam and Islamic History? Or is it high time we just put everything on the table and start engaging in difficult discussions for the sake of the next generation? Are YOU an ex-Muslim?
