Of all the faith communities in the world, the Muslim community is the MOST in need of Media training and strategy. No one else comes even close. If the Ummah were a physical body, it would be in need of immediate CPR (Critical Public Relations) training.... But what are the root causes of this problem?? Well, let us start with misplaced expectations and warped perceptions of reality since most ordinary Muslims are well intentioned, principled and naturally expect the same standards from the Media. This mentality is a Fatal mistake on our part. It is neither a duty nor a virtue for media outlets and corporations to comply with the moral standards that govern the lives and interactions of Muslims. Our moral standards do not apply to everyone, let us accept that reality and act accordingly (while we are here, stop Demanding Atheists and other hostile groups to respect Islam and Muslims, that's not how it works anymore. Simply do not watch their videos and avoid feeding into their social media platforms, they is what the Qur'an instructs us "Fahjurhum....") Back to the issue of Truth and Representation.... O.J Simpson didn't win the Jury over because he was telling the "truth" about his murder case. No, but he was only successful because he had a team of well-trained Professionals who knew how to construct a Narrative and how to Present it to the a group of very influential people. The court of public opinion has absolutely nothing to do with Truth (most people naturally hate the truth anyway). So.... Why is the Muslim community (especially in the West) constantly complaining about misrepresentation on someone else's private network and newspaper columns? ‼️ 🅽🅴🆆🆂🅵🅻🅰🆂🅷‼️ These are PRIVATE CAPITAL CORPORATIONS. They are NOT Charitable establishments. Do we own significant stakes in these corporations?? Are we able to withdraw financial support from their operations?? If the answer is "no", then what exactly would incentivise them to listen to anything we have to say?? Which Law of the land stipulates that the media must be Honest and Impartial in its coverage of the Muslim community?? Where are these misplaced expectations coming from exactly?? These are not establishments for the dissemination of Truth and Justice guys. They are private capital Corporations, they make money in the best way they can..... Through Lies, Sensationalism, Gossip and Demagoguery. That's is what moves units and generates sales and sponsorship deals in the media space, unfortunately. Few people are really concerned over whether the Muslims "REALLY did it", or not. As a matter of fact, few people actually care about the objective Truth when the "optics" so compelling and sensational *** 🎬🤳📽️ cue a bunch of masked Muslims screaming into the camera while shouting Allahu-Akbar, make sure to capture flag burning or flag waving if possible!! Now Pan to the background and capture the ensuing havoc 🔥🛢️🤬 **** As a general rule of thumb, it works best to avoid showing up uninvited to a riot or anywhere near a scene where bad things are taking place. It's really that simple. Few people care to investigate who what and why things kicked off because few people read beyond the headlines and frorn page images (genuinely, few people read anything attentively at all these days. It's all condensed, heavily animated flashing updates) "Optics optics optics", that's all that matters and that is what control the Narrative, not the Truth. Therefore, instead of focusing entirely on misrepresentation, we should work to influence how Muslims are perceived in the first place so that rather than reading comments such as "the Religion of Peace strikes again" beneath virtually any breaking news update, we may one day read "It couldn't possibly be the Muslims, let us wait for further information"... That is the goal. Secondly - I have some devastating reality updates for you..... the media LIES (shock horror 🙀). YES, They lie about virtually everything. Pick your flavour.... • Lies by omission • Lies by misdirection • White Lies • Lies by Statistics • Outright Lies Whatever the case, one thing is certain - these Lies sell papers and products, if you are in doubt about this, just look at the prevalence or click-baiting on social media. We should know better, but sadly human beings are naturally drawn to controversy. So...... the riots in Leeds were sparked off by some Roma people 🤔. Investigations have proven that.......🥱 That's nice. Now tell me something that actually matters at this very late stage because what you are doing is writing a medical prescription for a patient that died last week... The damage has already been done. The images are imprinted on the minds of millions and the narrative has been received. Headlines and the impact on public opinion is what truly matters. For want of a better word, our community is "Media-naïve" and measuring the reality of the modern media against the principles of Islam which upholds Sidq (Truthfulness) and Adala (Equirability) as standards to follow. Seeking truth and justice from a capitalist media mega-machine is as good as asking for wolves to maintain a strict diet of vegetables and fruit. "Dont blame the beast, Tame the beast" It's NOT about the truth, stop protesting for truth in mainstream media, control the Narrative instead. The entire industry is built on lies, deception and optics. That's precisely what makes Hollywood such a lucrative industry. Truth has nothing to do with any of it. The actors are fake, the sets are fake the action is fake and the script is fake, but that is exactly why we love Hollywood blockbusters. Malcolm told you already about the media more than 60 years ago! So does this mean that Muslims should not seek truth? Not at all, however we should be pragmatic and a little bit more on the ball. Right now, we are trying to play political ping pong in the middle of a football stadium and the world is watching this mess of a spectacle. Ps. And what is this about a radical Shia cleric seeking to purchase a private Island in Scotland where he plans on hosting a military unit and implementing his own version of the Shariah... and the timing of these ridiculous stories, really makes you wonder 🤔 🧐 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️..... ***EDIT: Southport just reported.
